the climate in l.a
sunny and BEAUTIFUL, all year long
When you think of Los Angeles, Hollywood isn't the only thing that comes to your mind. Another thing that everyone loves about Los Angeles is the weather. Los Angeles has a Subtropical Mediterranean climate. Of course many people wonder why it is referred to as mediterranean climate and it's not near the Mediterranean sea. That's because places that have dry subtropical summers are referred to as Mediterranean climates. Los Angeles receives a lot of sunshine through the year. The average annual temperature is 19C to 24C during the day and 14C during the night. Los angeles has only 35 days of precipitation throughout the year. Los Angeles is subject to something called microclimate. This is when extreme weather difference happens in different places in Los Angeles. This means it could be 24C at the Saint Monica Pier and 35C at Canoga Park which are 35km away from each other. Los Angeles has an average of 384.6mm of precipitation annually which occurs in the spring and winter. They fall in the form of rain showers, but they may be heavy rainfalls during winter storms. Snowfall is extremely rare in Los Angeles, but there are some mountains who receive snow each year. The greatest snowfall was recorded in 1932 which was 5cm of snow. The highest recorded temperature was 45c on September 27, 2010, and the lowest recorded temperature was -4C on December 22, 1944. A lot of greenhouse gases are being released in Los Angeles. This is why Los Angeles is always covered in smog. Scientist are trying to control the greenhouse gases by conducting different kinds of experiments. This next video gives a brief explanation about one of the experiments.
lower near water
Applying LOWER Near Water to Los Angeles, it's not affected by all of them. Los Angeles's coordinates are 34N and 118W. This means it is near the equator, but not very much. This may define the hot temperature it has , and it also makes sense that because it is not very near, the energy of the sun is not concentrated on L.A, thus the temp. is not very hot. This means that L.A is affect by Latitude. California has a special ocean current named after it which is California Current. This ocean current is a cold current, so that is why the temp. in California isn't very hot. Being near the equator makes it ht, but because the current is cold, there is this moderating affect that makes it in between. Of course Wind and Air mass have a partnership with the current, so if it's a cold current, the air that is carried to the land is going to be cold. The other great impact on climate is Los Angeles being near water, this is the moderating affect we were talking. It makes the temperature neither hot or cold.
