When you hear the word Hollywood, you think of this one thing. The thing that makes you laugh, cry ,get depressed, or even get the adrenaline pumped in your body. You think of MOVIES! Hollywood is the most famous motion picture industry in the whole world. Most of the movies we know and love were shot in studios in Los Angeles which is referred to as Hollywood. Now let's talk a little about how Hollywood started. In the early 1900s, most movies were made by Thomas Edison's production company that was situated in New Jersey. Any other filmmaker who started a production got sued at this time because the Thomas Edison company had all the rights to make movies. Filmmakers started escaping to the west, and they were very lucky because the weather and landscape were ideal for filming movies. This is when Los Angeles became the capital of the film industry. Now a day, The American cinema (Hollywood) has produced more than 39,641 screens in 2011. The film industry is a vital part of the American economy. American studios produce hundreds of movies each year. These movies make millions of dollars from the cost of the admission tickets. Of course because of the taxes on the tickets, the U.S government collects millions of dollars in taxes because of the film industry. The American movies are not only shown in U.S.A. They spread all over the world. Most people come to L.A to work in the movie business. Of course they don't have many employment opportunity because the show business is very hard to get into. Many tourists visit L.A to see the filming studios. Each year around 50,000,000 people visit Universal Studios. This includes tourists and nationals. Only two cinemas beat the American cinema. The Indian and Nigerian cinema. Entertainment is a basic industry. Movies are sent outside of America to be shown in other countries. Some of the money made there goes back to America because the production company has a right in some of the money. Entertainment is the largest and most famous basic industry in the United States.
