Together, a global community is created
Los Angeles is a multicultural city. It includes different races and origins. This is simply because Los Angeles is a global city. It attracts many different people because of the beautiful weather and of course celebrities and HollyWood. Los Angeles contains people from 140 other countries that speak more than 224 languages other than English. In Los Angeles, the english language represents only 40.2% of the languages spoken. Other languages were 59.8% of the languages spoken.
As we can see above. These are 2 maps of Los Angeles. One of them is in 1940 and the other is in 2000. These 2 maps show us how different races started to appear in Los Angeles in the period from 1940 to 2000. We can see that in 1940 , the majority race was the Anglo which is the white people. Black and other races like Asian had a very low presence in Los Angeles. This may be due to a lot of factors. One of them is that by this time, Los Angeles wasn't as famous as it is now. It didn't have this strong economy or the famous ''HollyWood", and it didn't even have the technology it has now, so it didn't have any pull factors to other citizens to immigrate to Los Angeles. The other map that shows us different races in 2000 shows that Los Angeles has evolved enormously. We can see now that Latinos are dominating half of the city, and the black or African American race increased compared to 1940. At this time , the pull factors for Los Angeles were very strong. In the year of 2000, Los Angeles had a strong economy, and Hollywood was very famous. Technology was introduced strongly in Los Angeles, and of course the beautiful weather was supporting all these pull factors. Let's talk a little bit about why Latinos are the most race that evolved between the time periods of 1940 and 2000.
Mexican- Americans show a strong presence in Los Angeles. U.S born Mexicans and immigrants from Mexico immigrated from other states, so they could settle and live in L.A. This was because of the strong economy it had. This immigration reached it's peak after 1940 which means during and after World War II. South Los Angeles contains most of the latinos, they replaced the African- Americans that were dominating this area before 1940. asians also represent a big part of the population, Los Angeles contains 1,497,960 Asians out of the total population which is 3,904,657.
