Los Angeles is an irregularly shaped city. It covers 1,302km. Mainly, it covers 1,214km of land and 88km of water. Los Angeles is both hilly and flat. The highest elevation in Los Angeles is Mount Lukens which is 1547m high. Most of the hills in Los Angeles are made out of sandstone layers. Los Angeles has the most diverse number of landforms in the United States. Mount Lukens is located in the northeastern end of the San fernando Valley. The Saint Monica mountains runs from the downtown to the Pacific Ocean , and they separate Los Angeles from San fernando. The main drainage channel in Los angeles is The Los Angeles river. The river starts from Canoga park , and goes through the san Fernando valley accompanying the Saint Monica mountains to the pacific ocean. Los Angeles has many earthquakes every year. This is due to it being situated on the Pacific Ring of Fire which has the tectonic plates moving really fast each year resulting in lots of earthquakes.Some parts of Los Angeles are also subject to tsunamis because it is situated on the coastline. The San Andreas fault which is at the boundary between the Pacific plate and the North American Plate, it is predicted that this is going to be the cause of Los Angeles's next big earthquake. The mountains in Los Angeles have a distinctive quality. Snow is very rare in L.A, but because of the high mountains, snow does appear on the top. This shows the most beautiful diversity of climate.
